*** MAKING HISTORY ***

Hey — It’s Will “Yemi” Jawando here. I just announced I’m running for the U.S. Senate.

Growing up in Maryland, I saw firsthand how racial and economic barriers are killing the potential of our families to survive and thrive. In the Obama White House and during my three terms on the Montgomery County Council, I’ve committed myself to dismantling the systems that are holding our families back. It’s time for D.C. to work for ALL families, not just the elite few.

ABOUT UNAC-MD

UNAC-MD is committed to promoting the well-being and aspirations of Nigerians in the great state of Maryland. We exist to support each and every Nigerian American striving to make a positive impact in their community, state, nation, and the world at large. We especially aim to bolster professionals, business owners, or students who are interested in pursuing leadership roles in both government and private sectors.

As a council, we promote closer knit relationship between the diverse members of the Nigerian diaspora community, civic organizations, and encourage civic engagement with all levels of Maryland state government. Our quest is to ensure the Nigerian collective has a seat at the table in order for our community not to miss out on vital opportunities. Furthermore, beyond the global popularity of Afrobeat, Nollywood, fufu, and African fashion championed by Nigerians worldwide, we have not even scratched the surface in leveraging the transformative talent and values our community possesses.

Do you want to make a difference? Do you have an idea or a vision you would like to see come to fruition? Do you have an organization or event you’ll like to list or feature on our website? Contact us today and let us TAKE ACTION!

HONORING OUR LEADERS

In the 2022 midterm elections, we had a record number of Nigerian Americans contest for various seats and a handful of them were victorious. Befittingly UNAC-MD honored all of the contestants at the Evening of Excellence held on January 14, 2023 at Tarmac Lounge in Prince George’s County.
