United Nigerian Americans Council of Maryland (UNAC-MD): Advancing Political Participation and Community Empowerment

The United Nigerian Americans Council of Maryland (UNAC-MD) is committed to enhancing political participation, civic engagement, and leadership development within the African and Nigerian communities in the United States. Our mission is to empower individuals and organizations to actively engage in the American electoral process, advocate for policies that benefit our communities, and strengthen our collective voice in the political landscape.

1️⃣ Promoting Political Participation & Leadership Development

🔹 UNAC-MD recruits and supports candidates of African and Nigerian descent seeking political office at local, state, and national levels.
🔹 Encourages voter registration, civic education, and community engagement to increase African and Nigerian representation in the electoral process.
🔹 Provides mentorship, leadership training, and organizational capacity-building to develop future African-American and Nigerian-American political leaders.

2️⃣ Advocating for African & Nigerian Communities

🔹 Works with policymakers, government agencies, and community stakeholders to advocate for policies that benefit African and Nigerian communities in the U.S.
🔹 Ensures an inclusive and democratic approach in decision-making by engaging community voices in legislative matters.
🔹 Partners with federal, state, and local institutions to advance equal opportunities, economic empowerment, and social justice.

3️⃣ Strengthening Community-Based Organizations

🔹 Provides leadership and capacity-building training for African and Nigerian community-based organizations to enhance their effectiveness and sustainability.
🔹 Facilitates collaboration among organizations to build a strong network of African-led initiatives that serve community needs.
🔹 Encourages youth and women’s participation in civic and political leadership.

4️⃣ Serving as a Resource Clearinghouse

🔹 UNAC-MD acts as a central hub for information, research, and resources that advance the common interests of the Nigerian and African communities in Maryland and beyond.
🔹 Offers guidance on immigration, business development, education, workforce training, and public policies affecting African and Nigerian communities.
🔹 Provides educational workshops, networking events, and leadership forums to connect the African diaspora with key decision-makers.
